Saturday

Tacos. Mmmmmm.

Last night I had dinner with A. She was gracious about my being so very "late". I thought she was held up at work, so I waited outside. She had gotten a table. For thirty minutes we waited for each other, wondering if something terrible had happened, knowing that the other wouldn't stand us up because she's not that sort of gal. Thankfully, dinner was beautiful. Nuevo Laredo Cantina. Oh Holy Tacos, how I love you. Sigh. I must take a moment to think on the loveliness that is the Tacos Sagrado.

They are a special kind of wonderful. They even rival the fish tacos at Taqueria del Sol and those have no equal in the fish taco arena. I do not consider myself a "foodie", let alone a gourmet, but I do appreciate a delicate blend of flavors. Holy Tacos win me over TDS fish tacos because of the combination of flavors. The corn tortilla--grilled to a spotty dark brown where it made contact with the pan, melted white cheese, shredded cabbage, lightly spiced mashed potatoes and an oniony tomatillo sauce. It all blends together to create a most pleasurable meal. Add to that refried beans and yellow Mexican rice and my soul is comforted, well fed, and happy in the moment.

Don't mistake me, the TDS fish tacos are brilliant. It's comparable to when you want a Depth Charge and when you want a frothy cappucino. Each serves their own wonderful purpose, but are not right for every situation or mood.

After dinner A. took me to see her and hubby J.'s new house. It is a mill worker's house that they are live-in renovating. It will be super fantastich when finished. It's pretty cool as it stands now, in all its disarray. Sigh. They are such a lovely couple. I confess, I am jealous. Not in an evil green way, but in an "ah, wouldn't it be cool if everyone had that" way.

Driving to DC this weekend to move the sister and her hubby. How is it that most of my weekend road trips take me to DC? Spending 21 hours in the car in a 64 hour period seems to be something I enjoy...
