RE: What's my point?

For now I've decided my point will be to share the planning of the trip. Why? Because there are six weeks and 2 days before I fly and some celebratory measure must be taken.

This will be my first major travel oriented trip and for once I am going to take to heart that oft repeated sage travel advice: pack what you think you must have then leave out half of it. I've done long trips before, but they were to a central location with day and weekend trips; never traveling a countryside. So, I've decided on a pack instead of a suitcase. Main reason is mobility and I have always hated having luggage. I know I would reach home with all too vivid memories of hauling the rolly case uphill in the rain on a cobbblestone path. Besides, having both hands free to beat off begging mobs of children is always a good thing. Or in the words of the Barefoot Contessa, This is going to be really good.

So I'm taking my pack (which has been tried on other trips) and a mini messenger bag. I have a regular one for my computer and I love it. This would be smaller and highly suitable for slinging onto my back to pedal through the streets of Amsterdam.

It is an evil consumeristic tendency of mine, but I love shopping for a trip. It's an excuse to acquire things I've wanted, but couldn't justify buying. For this trip, a certain pair of good-for-walking shoes and the bag. Though, I rarely have to justify shoes. I cannot ignore the imploring call of a pair of shoes sweetly asking come home with me to live with others of their kind.
