Happy Mother's Day!

To my fabulous mom and to my friend Annemarie who barely made this year's mother's day her own. Congratulations to the new parents! No more breathing through the umbilical cord for their little boy.

My day was nice. Went to breakfast with a friend from work. Drove to the inner suburbs of Dallas to go to NorthPark Center. Bought something shiny for mom and for me. Though, mine had to be ordered. It does mean I have to go to the mall again next Sunday, but I shan't mind so much.

B. and I arrived there at 11:30, a half hour before opening time. As is my wont, I sought the closest parking space without any fuss - and in the shade for it is growing hot here. Right by the window of the shop I was aiming to visit. Yes, I am that good. There weren't many people yet and there was time to walk round the mall before the throngs of shoppers turned my temper.

I confess the following with a sense of wonder at myself - I enjoyed the mall visit. There it is. The floors are lacquered concrete, the walls are brick painted cream. They have a few large scale scuptures in atriums, lots of what seems to be natural light. Large, close to the floor pots with various succulants and some lush little plants. The most charming thing - a "pond" lined with blue square tiles with a little island lit by a heat lamp. For. Tiny turtles and three beautiful ducks. Ducks and swimming tiny turtles. How can you not love that? Next weekend, when I pick up my something shiny, I take the camera.

We also visited Sephora. I'm thinking of getting a new scent. My only perfume to date has been Mystere by Rochas which is no longer. I am inspired to find something new. Opium by Yves Saint Laurent is close to what I am after, but it doesn't ellicit the same desire to gnaw on my wrist thus the search continues. Should there be a comma after wrist?

I worked some this afternoon, it saddens me to have to say that. Next weekend I will not work. I will go to the mall and go to a movie and go to Maggiano's for a splurge dinner. With wine. Lovely and red. Perhaps I'll get to finish my book at dinner. The Count of Monte Cristo. A book best red with a glass of red wine. Nothing like a story of coldly planned vengeance to stir the appetite.
