Flew home Thursday night, after work. Flew home because I need my car here. I want to take weekend trips and have the daily freedom that my own car will give me. So, I had less than 24 hours at home, but my shortest of visits was nice. Spent an hour or so with my sister and binlaw in Athens. Got a good couple of hugs from Dad and left to pick Mom up at work. A few minutes after five we were on the road. It took us almost 2 hours to get through traffic. I pity those who make a similar drive daily and I realize that I will not willingly do it again. To waste 2-4 hours a day. 10-20 hours a week, 40-80 hours a month, pissed away, wasted, ill-spent. No, thank you.
We spent the night just outside Jackson, Miss. Saturday morning was grey and misty and cold, but the roads clear and the drive easy. It turned into a beautiful day and we did not run out of conversation. I was warned that the drive was achingly boring, but we didn't find it so. Most of the trip reminded us of I-95 in NC and VA on the way to D.C. The trees were pretty in their Fall colors. Our fellow drivers were well-behaved. Rest stops clean.
We arrived in DFW around 4:15pm.
I'll write more later. I took Mom to the airport this evening and I'm bummed. I shall eat dinner and wallow in my bummed-outness and await the safe-arrival phone call.
