It's Ireland, I know from the accent, but there's not a cloud in the sky. I already have three sunburns - one from Amsterdam, one from the Aran Island visit and one from yesterday and I shall get another one today. We're going to the Burren.
Yesterday, R.'s family arrived and while they wandered into Doolin J. and I had lunch. Afterwards, we all drove over to the Cliffs of Moher. Amazing. The sun and the wind and the relatively small numbers of tourists made for a fabulous visit. So many pictures. There is a path to the left and right of the entrance. To the right, you go up the hill and have the view of the cliffs from the north. To the left is a less spectacular view unless you go beyond the very large sign that politely asks that you not go beyond this point. Once you get beyond that sign... yes, beautiful vistas. Supposedly there's a second sign further along that says Do Not Go Beyond This Point, but we decided we didn't need to get far enough to see that sign. A woman was pushed off the cliff by the winds not five weeks ago.
Last night we all went to McGann's pub for drinks and Irish music. I didn't stay very long as it was loud and hot. I walked back to my B&B in the half-moon light and there aren't many street lights, so it was dark. And beautifully quiet. Passing by the last pub on the way up the hill to my B&B was a little creepy as I have a healthy distrust of drunk people and you cannot smoke inside public buildings, so there's a clot of folks outside smoking. No human interaction on my walk home. Just what I was after.
About half a mile from the B&B I looked over towards the cliffs and the ocean and there's a bonfire. Otherworldy to see the flickering orange light on the cliffs which were otherwise moonlight blue.
So far, this has been an incredible trip.
