We left the house at a reasonable hour (10:15am) and headed for the Kroeller-Moeller museum. A bit over an hour to get there, but it was worth every minute in the car (during which, of course, Bram was the perfect travel companion). The museum is overwhelming, as are all large museums to me, but the works I was able to absorb - fantastic. Sculpture, painting, mixed media installations. Wonderful building, blending in quietly with it's wooded surroundings.
After the museum, we strolled through the sculpture wood. Annemarie declared, and I concur, that it must be a sculpture wood and not a garden for most of the grounds are wooded or barely tamed woods. We were lucky in our timing for it was cold when we started inside the museum and warm with a bit of sun by the time we were out with the sculptures. Trekking up dirt paths, walking paths with 8-foot rhodendendrons on both sides, in full bloom. Hearing only birds and the occasional fellow museum-goer. Strolling along a tree-lined lane to be surprised by a sculpture that is as one of the trees.
For dinner we had a salad. And fries with satay sauce. I love Dutch fries and their oh-so-wonderful sauces.
It was a good day.
