Driving home from work last Thursday, stuck in typically fun traffic, I had a silly grin on my face. Listening to NPR, I had grown disheartened by the news and went looking for cheesy pop radio. To my forgetful delight found racing! I flipped to the right station and I hear no music, no banal chatter, but racing stats. I had forgotten just how much I like this stuff. Just how visceral NASCAR fandom can be.
This Sunday was the Daytona 500. Happy sigh, the NASCAR season is underway. I watched it with two friends who I recently discovered have a love of racing that greatly outshines my own. Rock on! Alas, the outcome was a little lacking in thrill for me as Jimmie Johnson finished 27th because of a wreck (with only his car to blame. Still, it wasn't a boring race and that's the most important thing.
And less than a month brings the Formula 1 season opener. For those of you curious, this is why I love Formula 1. Beautiful. I love Spring.
