Wednesday

my weekend

So, I went to DFW this weekend. The NASCAR race Sunday brought me to town, but I spent time visiting with my friend K., my friend S. and the Turner exhibit at the Dallas Musuem of Art. Brunch with S. at Cafe Brazil was lovely. And quite the workout; there were these two or three little brown birds that would not take a hint - I even hit one of them in the face with a menu and the little bugger kept coming back to the table. Every few minutes S. or I would be standing up shooing the birds away. Gross little flying disease carriers.

After brunch, S. left me at the DMA. The Turner exhibit is on through May 18 and if you can, go. It is fantastic. A small part of the back of my mind is telling me I might need to go to DFW again in mid-May. After walking the entire exhibition, I returned to a central room and spent almost 20 minutes sitting on a bench with the Decline of Carthage behind me and at angles I took in simultaneously a sweeping English late morning landscape (cannot remember the name), Ulysses deriding Polyphemus - Homer's Odyssey
and three sunrises. If I were prone to weeping at beauty, this might have done it.

The race Sunday was great fun. I went with my friend T. and her boys (they're in their early 20s and quite entertaining). The weather was perfect. Windy and cool in the morning and up to the 80's by mid-afternoon. Perfect. Though the sun was bright and a bit warm, I never did take my jacket off... the choice was be a bit too warm, but not hot or spend the race worried about burning like the white girl I am. Really, no choice at all.

See, this is me at
the end of the race... not lobster colored (unlike most of the folks around me).

I cannot wait to go to my next race!

And because I love it so, here's a video of a lap (oh yes, there's noise - don't worry, I picked a short one for you, but it still takes a bit to load up)...
