Spent a lovely weekend of fun and frolicking below the gnat line. I drank much beer Friday, but matched it with much water so, all ended well. I foisted off the not-yet-stuck cold. I love my friends in that part of the world. We have the most interesting conversations and the most banal. You have to love people with whom you can talk politics, music, history, and beer.
The drive back was made in record time. Still, I had time enough to again be amazed by the billboards along I-75. Most of them seem to be for Lamar – the company that manages the billboards. The most irritating one of those has a big tropical fish on it with the word “gotcha”. Blech. They are so tall, so wide, so loud, so well lit. Such a frightening symbol of the American way. I do concede that some are entertaining. A natural gas company put one up that said "only kudzu covers more of Georgia". That went up at the beginning of the summer with little bits of kudzu at the edges. Now the billboard says "kudzu covers Georgia" as it has been taken over by the "kudzu". That makes me smile. Every day I drive by it. It's the little things.
