There's a reason I go to Dallas to attend the opera

I have to vent.

For years I've been complaining about the inaccessibility of the Atlanta Opera. I have been so impressed by the Dallas Opera, I wondered if I were working from a too-long held prejudice against the A.O. The A.O. is running The Marriage of Figaro in April and I thought to attend their production (rather than go to the one in Dallas). So, I go to the website and begin to confirm my long-held prejudice.

The Atlanta Opera sells tickets exclusively through Ticketmafia. Out of curiosity, I clink the link to see prices, but the A.O.'s link takes me to the Ticketmafia home page. Annoying though that is, the helpful search results tell me that there are "no currently scheduled events at this venue". Right. All 11,000 tickets for the four performances were sold through season subscriptions? In Atlanta? Hmph.

I've sent an e-mail asking if I can purchase tickets at the venue box office during regular office hours or if only during the two-hour window before performances. Shall we wager that it's only in that two-hour window? Because, really, why would anyone want to go out of their way to support the Atlanta Opera?

Sigh. At least I have Salome to look forward to next weekend.
