I went in to Ft. Worth yesterday to meet my friends S. and R. for dinner. Decided, after a depressing morning (no, no forthcoming details), to see a movie beforehand. The Dark Knight. Oh, it was not the best choice for perking one up, but it was certainly distracting. And good. Great, even.
There were things I didn't entirely enjoy -- like the occasional comic book preachiness -- but I accept that this is a comic book and let it go. I have to say that my favorite parts of the movie involve sound effects. Particularly, the sounds made by the Bat-all-terrain-mobile. The movie score/emotional manipulation music was a bit too obvious and occasionally pierced my happy bubble of suspended disbelief. All told, an excellent way to spend 2 and a half hours.
Dinner was at the Flying Saucer. The company was wonderful (I worked with S. in Atlanta and he and his, R., wife moved to Texas at the same time I worked for SBA here.) The food was good (it's a beer joint, so I didn't expect anything other than fries, but they had a lovely veggie wrap with a name that almost hurt to order - Hippy Hollow Wrap. Ugh.) and a beer selection worthy of a repeat visit.
Tonight I'm meeting another friend for dinner and then we're heading to Uncle Calvin's for the Pierce Pettis show. I know almost nothing about the artist, but J. assures me it will be a great show. I'm looking forward to it.
