Lately, I have found myself listening to (what I think is) top 40 music. I flip between two stations, 99.7 and 105.7. The latter used to be Viva! ciento cinqo punto siete; now, it is 105.7 The Groove. Dancey, disco, cheesy pop, but I am drawn to it as I am drawn to trashy romance novels. Musical escapism. How can you not enjoy a song that makes you laugh with lyrics such as "But thanks for lovin' me 'cause you're doing it perfectly" paired with a catchy tune and bouncy beat? I'm smiling even now. Also, occasionally, a fabulous memory will come on, like 'Get Your Back Off The Wall' or 'Billie Jean'. Officially, the format is called "rhythmic adult contemporary"... sounds like a dance class for middle-aged housewives. I kind of like that.
Last Saturday, as I was spending much time driving hither and yon, I was listening to the weekly countdown. It is like being given a glimpse into another world. My iPod is playing Metric, Seawolf and Elbow and my radio is playing Adam Lambert and Lady Gaga.
I have always wondered why muffins are considered breakfast food. They bring to mind the Bill Cosby bit about cake for breakfast. I had a perfect cherry almond muffin this weekend, from Fresh Market. I had one yesterday afternoon, too. Again, I succumbed to late afternoon eating as entertainment. Sigh. I miss the days of having a job so busy I didn't have time to look out the window.
