A couple of weeks ago, I went to the last game of the Braves regular season. The weather could not have been more beautiful - bright blue sky, sun, breeze, autumn temperatures (toasting in the sun, freezing in the windy shade). Our seats were second row outfield, about four seats from the Braves bullpen.
I have to say that I love being a part of such a communally American moment. 50,000 people there for the same reason; red, white and blue (didn't hurt that it was the Braves playing the Phillies color-wise), a festive spirit, 'God Bless America' sung by an Atlanta Opera member with the flag held aloft by a consistent wind, roasted peanuts, cheap beer in a can, baseball caps.
