Someone was paid good money to come up with the following on the back of a bag of candies (name removed because I felt like it):
Here's the refreshing ---- candy you've always loved, in a value-packed bag.
* Enjoy the mouthwatering refreshment of ---- candies!
* Large sized pieces let you indulge in great fruity flavor longer!
* For freshness, each piece comes in its own easy-to-open wrapper!
* Put them in your candy dish and share them with the whole family!
No one buying this candy isn't familiar with it. We don't need the bag to promote it nor to tell us what to do with our candy once we've succumbed to the brightly colored bag. Why turn to advertisements in English from other lands when the absurd is found in the grocery store down the street.
It rained this morning. Now it's windy and cool. Not so bad. The weather, that is. I'm still in Texas, so it could be better. I am convinced I suffer from a weariness of spirit. I still have an appetite (as if that ever diminishes) and I'm not sad, but I am tired all the time - climbing the stairs feels like it takes all my muscles working together taking all my energy. I hate napping, but was compelled to take one after work today (5pm). Of course, now at 9:55pm I'm not sleepy, though I am still tired. Woe is me. Wah, wah. Yes. I'll stop whining now.
I'm debating going in to work tomorrow. I don't want to go to work, but I think I must. Yearly reviews are going on and the supervisor of our group asked me to do one for my team (former) so that she can base her review (the official review) on what I say. Those who are getting excellent marks and those who are average make for easy reviews. It is the review of the marginal folks that is giving me fits.
On its face: 3 for "meets expectations", 2 for "does not meet expectations". Simple? When you read more carefully, 2 says this person cannot function without constant guidance and is unfailingly short of meeting goals. A dash of this applies to the marginal folks, but my goodness - I don't think the general definition of 2 applies to any of them. Therefore, I am spending more time on these than perhaps is expected. If it were mine (which I'm supposed to also do a self-evaluation), I'd want my supervisor to take it seriously. So, it is only this that will take me in on a Sunday.
