Monday-Thursday

Monday was good until around 7:45pm. Left work early to meet my binlaw; we went to the Braves' season-opener. Fanfrickintastic. That's what a baseball game ought to be. In spite of the gaggle of drunken idiots about 10 rows behind us chanting incessantly - 19-0-8 (the last year the Cubs won the World Series) or Ja-son Hey-ward (the new phenom outfielder), I stayed un-annoyed the entire game.

Monday after 7:45pm was terrible. I got a call from a beloved friend with news that her daughter was in the hospital. Around 11pm, it was confirmed that said wee one has leukemia. I have been a bit distracted this week. The diagnosis and the entire situation leading to the diagnosis was the best way a terrible thing could happen and I think everyone is doing as well as can be expected. It will be a difficult month for them, but the prognosis is that a quick remission is likely and cure possible.

The nature of the treatment necessitates an all but sterile house, so tonight their cat came to live with us. Yes. We are now a five cat household. I am laughing through my tears. Getting her into the carrier was an ordeal; I've never put a cat into a carrier before. I know, it was a surprising realization; but then, it's the same with changing diapers... no one asks and I don't volunteer.

I imagine getting this very sweet cat into the carrier is like getting an octopus into a Coke bottle. Nonetheless, it was accomplished with no harm to either of us. After only an hour in her new kitty condo, she decided it was better to forgive me than forgo petting and all is well. Enough.
